The O'Connell Electric - Line Division provides comprehensive services in the following areas:

EMERGENCY SERVICE:

O'Connell Electric routinely supports public utility operations in western and central New York, performing maintenance and construction of overhead and underground transmission and distribution lines and is frequently called on to provide emergency storm restoration work throughout New York State and the surrounding area. Most recently, we provided twenty fully equipped line crews in support of emergency operations in the Adirondack region following the 1998 ice storm and subsequently dispatched 30 linemen and equipment to support Hydro-Quebec. In the aftermath of Hurricane Floyd, 14 line crews were dispatched in support of Central Hudson Gas & Electric. Following the April 2003 ice storm in the greater Rochester NY Area, over 250 linemen and electricians comprising over 100 crews were dispatched in support of Rochester Gas & Electric. Following the October 2006 early snow storm in Buffalo NY area, over 100 linemen and electricians comprising over 50 crews were dispatched to support National Grid and Energy East.

REPRESENTATIVE PROJECTS:

Installed 27 miles of overhead 13.2kV and 54 miles of underground 15kV primary power distribution cables for the United States Army's Fort Drum facility in Watertown, NY.
As general contractor for the entire project, O'Connell constructed three substations for the Rochester Gas & Electric Company, marking the first time that RG&E has outsourced such construction work.
Prime contractor for the New York State Thruway Authority Intelligent Transportation System upgrade between exits 44 and 61 (approximately 150 miles). Work included CCTV cameras, variable message signs and transmit antennas communicating over fiberoptic and microwave links (photo below left).
