O’Connell Electric Company was proud to serve as the electrical contractor for the landmark expansion of the Golisano Children’s Hospital on the University of Rochester’s Strong Medical Campus. This 245,000-square-foot, nine-story facility was the largest capital project in the university’s history at the time of construction.
Our scope of work included the complete installation of the hospital’s electrical infrastructure, encompassing advanced lighting systems, fire alarm systems, nurse call systems, general power distribution, and three 1000kW generators. These systems were designed and implemented to meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and patient care.
The hospital features a 60-bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), 56 general care beds, and shell space for future pediatric intensive care units and operating rooms. Unique to this project were family-centered amenities such as private rooms with hospitality suites, a family resource library, and spaces designed to support both healing and comfort.
