NextCorps Renovations – Sibly Square

One of our most transformative projects in the heart of downtown Rochester was the renovation of the NextCorps headquarters at the historic Sibley Square.

NextCorps, formerly High Tech Rochester, is the region’s only state- and federally-designated business incubator and an affiliate of the University of Rochester. The $24 million project—backed by state, federal, and private funding—transformed 40,000 square feet of space into a vibrant hub for tech startups and entrepreneurs.

O’Connell Electric was selected to deliver the complete electrical, fire alarm, security, and data infrastructure for the entire sixth floor. Our Construction and Low Voltage Divisions worked in tandem to bring the space to life, supporting a wide range of amenities including:

  • Signature co-working space in the former Tea Room
  • Private offices and biotech-ready wet labs
  • A fully equipped prototyping lab
  • Conference rooms, an auditorium, and a rooftop deck
  • Common areas, kitchen/cafeteria, and game room

The facility now supports dozens of ventures across software, biomedical, healthcare, photonics, and electronics sectors—providing not just space, but also mentoring, legal, financial, and marketing services to help startups thrive.

This project exemplifies our commitment to powering innovation and economic development in Upstate New York.
