Community Involvement

O’Connell’s reputation as a community-minded company began through Walter Parkes’ leadership in the early 1970s.  Over the decades our employees have demonstrated continued commitment in these areas through philanthropy and volunteer support in the communities where we work and live.  Today, our resolve has not diminished.

The Mary Parkes Center

The Mary M. Parkes Center for Asthma, Allergy, and Pulmonary Care was established in 1995 by Walter and Carmina Parkes and family in honor of their daughter, Mary M. Parkes.  Affiliated with the University of Rochester Medical Center, Mary Parkes was the first state-of-the-art asthma facility to be located in the northeastern United States.  The company provides regular support to The Center through volunteerism, financial support, and the donation of electrical construction services.

Mary died in 1991, at the age of 32, from severe asthma.  The Center stands today as a testament to her courage, compassion, and beautiful smile. It is a reminder for all of us to take one breath at a time.

Annual Holiday Charity Donations

At O’Connell Electric, we believe in giving back to the communities where we live and work. Our commitment to philanthropy is demonstrated through our support of various non-profit organizations throughout the communities where our offices are located. We are dedicated to making a positive impact and fostering a sense of community through our charitable efforts.

For the 2024/25 holiday season, O’Connell Electric made considerable financial contributions to twelve nonprofit organizations.

Volunteering and Personal Philanthropy

O’Connell Electric’s dedication to philanthropy is a strong reflection of our culture and core values. Our employees have proven to be benevolent as well, donating time, services, and financial contributions to a range of charitable causes. This broad participation among our employees and their communities has inspired the company to institute an annual OCE Charity Campaign.  Every calendar year employees may make financial contributions to certified nonprofit organizations and receive a corporate match directly to that organization. This campaign has encouraged and empowered our employees to give back in their own personal ways.

Annual Community Impact

At O’Connell Electric, we are proud to announce a new philanthropic initiative that underscores our commitment to making a meaningful impact in our communities. Each year, we focus on a specific non-profit organization, providing a significant financial contribution to support their mission and amplify their efforts.

By concentrating our resources we aim to create a more substantial and lasting impact. This focused approach allows us to address critical needs and support transformative projects that benefit our communities. Our selection process involves careful consideration of various non-profit organizations that align with our values and community goals.

For 2025, O’Connell Electric has partnered with the Pluta Cancer Foundation as the Title Sponsor for their 2025 programming.  With a $75,000 donation, O’Connell Electric is the inaugural Title Partner for the Foundation’s newly launched Corporate Partners Program.
