At O’Connell Electric Company, we are proud to support higher education institutions in their mission to innovate and inspire. One of our standout contributions is the comprehensive electrical construction for the Case Library renovation and expansion at Colgate University.
This ambitious $57.5 million project transformed the existing 101,000-square-foot Case Library into a modern academic hub, while adding a 51,000-square-foot wing to house the new Geyer Center for Information Technology. The expansion elevated the structure from four to five stories, creating a dynamic space for research, collaboration, and digital innovation.
O’Connell Electric was awarded a $4.4 million contract by the Gilbane Building Company to deliver full electrical construction services. Our scope included upgrading the library’s outdated electrical systems and installing new infrastructure for the Geyer Center. This encompassed a new primary underground electrical system, a 2,500-amp main electric service, and a 300 kW natural gas indoor standby generator. We also outfitted the facility with high-tech workstations, a multimedia production suite, meeting spaces, lounges, and a café—ensuring the space is as functional as it is inspiring.
With a construction timeline of 18 months, this project exemplifies our commitment to precision, performance, and partnership in educational environments.
