Lafarge, one the largest cement, aggregate and concrete producers in the country, took on a phased approach for a multi-million-dollar modernization project at its plant in Ravena, NY.  The new state-of-the-art facility will be equipped with advanced efficiency features that allow Lafarge to stay competitive in the global marketplace.

As with most large industrial renovations, upgrading the power infrastructure is always a key component.  O’Connell was awarded a contract to upgrade parts of Lafarge’s old substation at the plant and build out a new yard and control building.  The new substation expansion consisted of two 115kV – 13.8kV transformers with associated switches and bus work.  A four circuit 15kV line constructed with steel poles and Hendrix spacer cable connected the new substation to the new control building which housed 15kV switchgear to feed the facility.
